*SATEKA* means “confluence” in Latvian: the place where separate waters meet and become something neither one nor the other. The music begins from that image — not as a clean fusion of styles, but as a more restless meeting of sound, memory, geography, and contradiction. Slide guitar bends through blues phrasing and rhythmic force; traces of Latvian choral music, folk melody, poetry, and myth surface alongside echoes of guqin, pipa, shakuhachi, jazz, ambient music, and ritual sound. Created by Latvian composer, guitarist, and vocalist Rihards Kolmanis as an ongoing solo project with a shifting collaborative ensemble, heard here as a quintet, *SATEKA* follows the experience of moving through the world with no single center: longing for home, inventing nostalgia, encountering tradition through distance, and listening to natural soundscapes as they are altered by modern infrastructure, cities, electricity, and digital noise. The program includes Kolmanis’s original works including “Saulē,” with lyrics by Latvian exile poet Gunārs Saliņš, a reinvention of a classic by Emīls Dārziņš, and a melody drawn from the Suitu sievas repertoire — each treated not as a monument, but as living material entering a wider current.
