Look for the black and white JazzBoston banners at the Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival next Saturday afternoon and come by our tent to meet some of Greater Boston's most creative musicians, make a video for our What's Your Jazz? campaign, or just hang out with other denizens of the scene. On Sept. 24, JazzBoston will make its fifth appearance at the festival and its second as an official festival partner. The free outdoor event, which runs from noon to 6 p.m., takes place on Columbus Ave. between Mass. Ave. and Burke St.

Every half hour starting at 1 p.m., a different pair of hometown musicians will be on hand to talk with fans about their music and the scene. They'll have their instruments with them so they can demonstrate the projects they're working on. In the lineup so far: saxophonists Ken Field, Pat Loomis, and Cercie Miller; guitarist Antonio Loomis; pianist Yoko Miwa; trumpeter Jerry Sabatini; trombonist Bill Lowe; and drummer Yoron Israel. Also, percussionist Syd Smart, representing the John Coltrane Memorial Concert, which he co-founded in 1977; and drummer Ayeisha Mathis, accompanied by rising stars from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, where she is Director of the Music Clubhouse.

Also on hand to join the conversations will be Jazz Journalists Association president Howard Mandel, visiting from New York, and WGBH Radio hosts Eric Jackson and Steve Schwartz.

Take a few minutes to stop by our mini TV studio, manned by Leroy McLaurin again this year, to watch music lovers of every persuasion as they answer the question, "What's your jazz?" Or step up to the camera yourself and help us spread the word that jazz is for everyone.

In October Kelly will join the Boston-based mission to South Africa, where more fundraisers are planned.

JazzBoston members are being offered two pairs of free tickets to the 34th annual John Coltrane Memorial Concert (JCMC) on Oct. 22 at Northeastern University's Blackman Theatre, 360 Huntington Ave., Boston, at 7:30 p.m. This year's event, Coltrane's Ashe III, will be hosted by WGBH Radio's Eric Jackson and will honor Jose Masso, longtime host of WBUR-FM's "Con Salsa" program and a member of JazzBoston's Board of Directors. The concert revisits Ashe, Yoruban for the all-pervasive energy with which the Creator empowers humanity, and will showcase 21st century Afro-Caribbean stylistic approaches to Coltrane's compositions.

Coltrane's Ashe III features the John Coltrane Memorial Ensemble, an outstanding lineup of 14 prominent Boston-based musicians, many of whom have been the core of the JCMC over its 34- year legacy: Carl Atkins, Leonard Brown, Jeff Galindo, Tim Ingles, John Lockwood, Ricardo Monzon, David Neves, Jason Palmer, Bill Pierce, Ron Savage, Syd Smart, Joel Larue Smith, Stan Strickland, and Gary Valente.
