Dates Set for Next Year's Jazz Week: Apr. 26-May 4, 2008

Plans are in the works for next year's Jazz Week, which will be held April 26 to May 4 in various locations in and around Boston. As was the case in 2007, Jazz Week events will be coordinated and promoted by JazzBoston but produced independently by participating musicians, presenters, clubs, educational institutions, community centers, and other organizations. If you're interested in participating in Jazz Week 2008 as an artist or presenter or in supporting Jazz Week as a sponsor, email us at jazzweek@jazzboston.org.

Jazz Week 2007 featured 150 events in more than 50 venues throughout the Greater Boston area. The eight-day celebration saw hundreds of musicians of all generations performing jazz of every style during daytime, evening, and late-night programs. For a recap of Jazz Week 2007, including the full listing of events and sponsors and a photo gallery of the week's highlights, go to the Jazz Week page on our Website.

Last Call for Bob's Southern Bistro Nov. 25; Night Town to Open at Location in December

Bob's Southern Bistro, the soul food and jazz club at 604 Columbus Ave., will close its doors on Nov. 25 to make way for Night Town, which, according to new owner Malcolm Aalders, will open in mid or late-December after renovations. Aalders said his plans for the venue include offering a menu of "small plate American tapas" and a mix of entertainment ranging from comedy and cabaret to trivia nights and live jazz. Sunday jazz brunches, a longtime tradition at Bob's, will continue, with groups led by Rusty Scott and Joe McMahon already scheduled. "Our doors will be open to everyone," said Cleveland native Aalders, "whether they're wearing a necktie or a T-shirt."

Bob's Southern Bistro owner Darryl Settles, who is selling the business 17 years after buying the former Bob the Chef's, said that he plans to close with a final Sunday jazz brunch featuring a New Orleans-style funeral celebration led by Henri Smith and Nat Simpkins. Settles, one of the owners of The Beehive restaurant and bar in the South End, said that he will continue to operate his Bob's Southern Bistro catering service.
