JazzBoston Hosts Hometown Musicians at Berklee BeanTown Jazz Fest Sept. 26

Nearly 20 of the city's most creative jazz artists will be on hand to talk with fans about their music and the scene when JazzBoston makes its third appearance at the Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 6 p.m. The free outdoor event takes place on Columbus Ave. between Mass. Ave. and Burke St.

Look for the JazzBoston tent and its "Meet Boston's Musicians" table where these artists are among those scheduled to appear: Dave Bryant, Terri Lyne Carrington, Garrison Fewell, Kevin Harris, Jim Hobbs, Eric Hofbauer, Hiro Honshuku, Pat Loomis, Bill Lowe, Carmen Marsico, Myanna, Larry Roland, Elan Trotman, Frank Wilkins, and Patrice Williamson. For updates as artists are added to the roster and the schedule of appearances, check "JazzBoston at BeanTown."

In addition to out-of-town artists like Jane Bunnett, Ernie Andrews, and Joe Louis Walker who will perform on Saturday, a strong contingent of Boston-based players will also appear, including Donna McElroy, Elan Trotman, Marcus Santos, Little Joe Cook, and Eguie Castrillo.

According to drummer and BeanTown Artistic Director Carrington, who is also a JazzBoston Artistic Advisor, "It's important for BeanTown to remain neighborhood-based, and it's really important as it grows to keep the model of always including local artists along with outside artists."

JazzBoston's BeanTown tent will also house a mini TV studio, with a camera crew and a large monitor, where we'll shoot and show videos of music lovers and passers-by answering the question, "What's your jazz?" Email videos of yourself or your friends to myjazz@jazzboston.org by Tuesday night, Sept. 22, and we'll include them in the show. Just begin with the words, "My jazz" or "My jazz is" and keep the length to 20 seconds or less. If you prefer writing to emoting, you can post your answer on the "My jazz is . . . ." board in the tent.

Your videos and written responses will be posted on JazzBoston's website and Facebook page and will become part of JazzBoston's ongoing multimedia campaign to build audiences for the music. For more info about the campaign, click here.

JazzBoston and Scullers Team Up To Lead VIP Trip to 7th Annual Panama Jazz Festival in January
Join the crew from JazzBoston and Scullers Jazz Club along with members of the Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory community for an unforgettable trip to the 7th annual Panama Jazz Festival. From January 11 to 16, Panama City, the capital of the nation known as the bridge of the Americas, will host music lovers from around the world.
Founded by pianist and composer Danilo Perez (photo left), who is the festival's artistic director and president of the Danilo Perez Foundation, this year's festival will be a tribute to Panamanian pianist Sonny White, who performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Billie Holiday, Benny Carter, and Dexter Gordon.

JazzBoston in partnership with the Danilo Perez Foundation is offering a package with an array of VIP events, including cocktails at the U.S. Embassy, a press conference with the Mayor of Panama City, and a private tour of the awe-inspiring Panama Canal that will take you close enough to touch the ships as they pass through the locks. The package also includes deep discounts on accommodations and round-trip airfare from Boston. A roster of world-class musicians will perform at concerts around the city, and a day of free performances in the colorful Plaza Catedral of the Old City will cap a week of great music, delicious cuisine, walks through tropical rain forests, and for sun worshipers, plenty of time pool-side.

Leave behind Boston's winter blues and join us for this first-time VIP trip. For more details, write to panama@jazzboston.org. And watch the JazzBoston website for updates as the musical lineup takes shape.
