Jazz Week '09, coordinated and promoted by JazzBoston, will be held from Saturday, April 25, to Sunday, May 3, all across the city. City Jazzed During Successful Jazz Week '08

Officially proclaimed by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Jazz Week '08 was called an event that "has grown in size and stature" by the Boston Herald. More than 215 events were held in over 80 venues in Greater Boston. Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Dorchester, the South End, Hyde Park, and Back Bay were among the Boston neighborhoods that hosted the music, in addition to Cambridge, Somerville, Belmont, Brookline, Acton, Wellesley, and Newton. Among the highlights:

- Drummer Alvin Terry (left, top photo) was among several Boston-based musicians who participated in the closing performance of JazzBoston's after-school pilot program developed in partnership with the Boston Public Library for the Dudley and Codman Square branches.

- JazzBoston presented "Jazz Week @ the Boston Public Library," a series of free weekday and evening seminars at the Main Library in Copley Square on topics including jazz and hip-hop, and the future of jazz recording in the digital age. Vocalist Mae Arnette (left, bottom photo by Jean Hangarter) joined pianist Al Vega, trumpeter Hy Lockhart, and WGBH 89.7 FM host Eric Jackson in "Reflections on Boston's Jazz History."

-The world premier of former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky with an ensemble featuring drummer Rakalam Bob Moses and reedman Andrew Urbina at Berklee Performance Center was part of a multi-act benefit concert presented by JazzBoston that supported jazz outreach in the city's public schools.
