JazzBoston Hosts Hometown Musicians at Berklee BeanTown Jazz Fest Sept. 25

Jazz fans and other music lovers will have an opportunity to make a personal connection with musicians from every part of Greater Boston's diverse jazz scene when nearly 20 of the area's most creative jazz artists are hosted by JazzBoston at the Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 25. JazzBoston will make its fourth appearance at the festival and its first as an official festival partner. The free outdoor event, which runs from noon to 6 p.m., takes place on Columbus Ave. between Mass. Ave. and Burke St.

Look for the JazzBoston tent and our "Meet Boston's Musicians" table where these artists are scheduled to talk with fans about their music and the scene: Pablo Ablanedo, Gill Aharon, Leonard Brown, Amanda Carr, Rebecca Cline, John Funkhouser, Russ Gershon, Florencia Gonzalez, Nick Grondin, Grace Kelly, Maxim Lubarsky, Austin McMahon, Jason Palmer, Diane Richardson, Kelly Roberge, Rick Stone, Stan Strickland, and Athene Wilson.

In addition to out-of-town artists like Greg Osby, Nona Hendryx, the Wild Magnolias, and Julian Lage who will perform on Saturday, a strong contingent of Boston-based players will also appear, including Frank Wilkins and WeJazzUp, Victor Mendoza, and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute Ensemble.

JazzBoston's BeanTown tent will also house a mini TV studio with a camera crew and a large monitor to shoot and show videos for our ongoing audience-building campaign. (Photo left, scene from 2009.)

Stop by and watch the crew video-record music lovers of every persuasion as they answer the question, "What's your jazz?" Or step up to the camera yourself. If you prefer writing to emoting, you can post your answer on the "My jazz is . . . ." board.

Your participation will help us spread the word that jazz is for everyone. Videos and written responses will be posted on the "What's Your Jazz?" page of the JazzBoston website and on JazzBoston's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Selected videos may also be used in public service announcements on cable and broadcast TV.
